Darril Gibson
Darril,
Thanks for letting us know of the new release of your updated book SY0-301, above all the great discount you have offered us all.
BTW, is there an e-book version purchasable for this new edition?
It’s rather costly to factor in international shipping costs for the book to be delivered though..
Cheers,
P
Hi P,
I am working on a Kindle version of the study guide but it won’t be available for a while.
However, there is a Kindle version of the SY0-301 Practice Test questions book available now: http://amzn.to/ueLIjm

The CompTIA Security+: Get Certified Get Ahead: SY0-301 Study Guide is now available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/CompTIA-Security-Certified-Ahead-SY0-301/dp/1463762364/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1321181123&sr=1-8
Great question. Just as the SY0-201 edition of the book does, this book provides the details so that people can truly understand and master the topics.
The book covers the relevant security topics related to the CompTIA Security+ SY0-301 exam, so from that perspective it is exam focused. For example, you won’t read the details about how to configure an Apache web server to host web sites because that isn’t relevant to the SY0-301 exam. However, you will read about common problems associated with web applications such as the lack of input validation and how this opens up vulnerabilities related to buffer overflows and SQL injection.
In this example, the book goes into the depth required for you to understand what input validation is, what a buffer overflow is, what SQL injection is, and how input validation can prevent buffer overflow and SQL injection attacks. No matter how CompTIA words a question in one of these topics, you’ll have the understanding of the topic to give the correct answer. Many readers told me that they kept their Security+ book on their shelf and they periodically referenced it long after the exam was complete. I expect to hear the same comments on the new book.
But don’t take my word for it. Read what other people have said:

Hello Darill
As I have heard a lot of compliments about your last book(SY0-201), I want to buy your book. But I have one question regarding the book. i feel the book is going to be exam focused. Is it going to help understanding the topics deeply in addition to preparing for the exam. Because I don’t want to go just for the exam, the knowledge matters most to me. so my question is whether this book is only exam-centerted or it can also help me master the topics which can help me in my carrier?
thanks in advance
