CompTIA recently added their CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) to their Continuing Education (CE) program. They were giving hints before but it wasn’t showing up on any of the CE documentation pages, but it’s starting to now.
CASP is an IT security certification on a higher level than the Security+ certification. Passing this exam shows competency in enterprise security; risk management; research and analysis; and integration of computing, communications, and business disciplines.
This page has the details but as a summary, here are the requirements for the overall program.
To renew the certifications CompTIA requires the following Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) be earned per certification:
- CompTIA A+ 20 CEU’s
- CompTIA Network+ 30 CEU’s
- CompTIA Security+ 50 CEU’s
- CompTIA CASP 75 CEU’s
The CE program requires an annual fee based on the CompTIA Certification Level you are renewing at:
- CompTIA A+ $25 annually = $75
- CompTIA Network+ $49 annually = $147
- CompTIA Security+ $49 annually = $147
- CompTIA CASP $49 annually = $147
If you have multiple CompTIA certifications you only need to pay the annual fees and earn CEU’s for the highest level certification you are renewing. By earning a ‘ce’ designation on the highest level cert you would automatically be granted ‘ce’ designations for the lower level certifications as well.
Many people pursue the Security+ certification before the CASP. If you’re pursuing the Security+ cert, here are some links to more resources to help you pass the Security+ exam the first time you take it.
